Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

My father passed away in August of 2011 and my mother in October of 2011. I received a letter today from a debt colletion agency saying I owe 500$ from tickets on HIS car from January. The car is in HIS name only. There was no estate or will. The car is currently at my step sisters house. They are claiming this will affect my credit and could suspend my license. Am I responsible for this car?

In fact, depending on what entity sent you the notice, this might be a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
