Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois
Being harrassed for payments already made
An insurance prescription plan I once belonged to keeps sending me letters and calling me saying I owe them my last two payments. However, I sent those two payments via money orders. I even went to the bank and faxed the insurance company copies of the cashed payments. The back of the money order clearly has the name of the insurance company on the back, meaning someone cashed it.
The insurance company claims that after they ''investigated the matter'' they came to the conclusion they never received those payments. They say some other department within their large company maybe cashed the money orders. But since their department never saw the money orders, they're still hounding me for it.
I am still in the process of trying to track down what happened/who cashed the money orders. But is there anything I can do legally to keep this insurance company from harrassing me? It just doesn't seem fair that another wing of this company has the money, while another wings keeps bothering me for it. Thank you.

Re: Being harrassed for payments already made
Yes, a letter from an attorney demanding that they stop collection efforts should stop them if the facts are as you say. Do you need an attorney? This answer does not constitute legal advice because you are not as yet my client.
