Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois
Hi,
can a credit card company to whom i am indebted, otain a judgment on the amoun owed without ever obtaing personal service on me and serving me with papers?
i lost my job in Illinois and move to Argentina to work.

But they probably do not know you moved to Argentina and they served you by substitute service at your last known address, They service may be defective and you can, when you come back, seek to vacate the judgment.

They may also have served you by publication, which essentially means, if they are unable to serve you personally, the court may have allowed them to publish a notice in the newspaper to effectuate service upon you.
