Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois
Hospital Bills
My mother is elderly and has been incurring some larg hospital bills lately because she is sick. She does not have the money to cover all these bills since she doesn't have insurance. She owns a small house and I'm worried that the hospitals will sue her and come after her house.
Is there anything she can do to protect her home?

Re: Hospital Bills
That's a reasonable worry to have. How is your mother going to pay for these bills if she has insufficient money and no insurance? How does she want to also protect her home from her medical creditors for treatment she received? Talk to an elder care attorney for advice on the time limits for transfering real property from your mother to you or other person prior to her death/disability. This answer does not constitute legal advice because you are not as yet my client.
