Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois
My husband just found out he was turned into a collection agency for a $500 Nicor gas bill that was in his name from 1995. My husband's birthday is 7/7/80 and therefore would have been 15 at the time that the account was opened. It appears that his father used his social security number at the time because he had bad credit himself and opened this account in his name. He does not currently have any contact with is father. What can be done so that he will not be held responsible for this bill - espeically since he wasnt of legal age to enter into a binding agreement or have an account in his name.

I suggest your husband contact the gas company directly. Talk to a customer representative and gently explain your situation.
If necessary, dispute this issue with the credit compnay as well.
If you like, you may contact me anytime, and I can give it a shot. I have experience in dealing with creditors and the 3 major credit companies. I have very reasonable rates!
