Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Invalid debt

My husband began receiving calls & letters saying he owed money to a company. We denied owing and never heard of the company. This 'debt' has now been 'sold' a multitude of times with each doing their best to collect. Now I am receiving calls and letters saying I now owe this money and this 'debt' has again been sold to yet another company. How do we stop this harassment, as it has gone on for several years now? They do not want to hear our denials but just continue this phone and letter campaign in attempts to wear us down and force us to pay a debt we do not owe. We do not use credit cards, no car loans, house paid for, etc., do not owe anyone. My fear is they can contact my employer, my credit rating destroyed or what ever else they may try to do.

Re: Invalid debt

Find out all you can about this debt. Find out why they think you owe the money. Did someone use your social security number? Were you a co-signer on a loan. Give me a few more details and I might be able to point you in a better direction.
