Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

judgement

In 2001 I agreed to ordera product in my name for a friend going through bankrupcty. I told the rep. from this company to deliver and bill to me 2 times. When the bill came, I gave it to him and he promised to pay. Needless to say, he never did. I continued to get bills from them through the years and just threw them away. Stupid, I know!! Well, long story short...When I went to get my license this year for work, I was informed that there was a judgement against me. I either had to pay in full or make a payment arrangement to keep my job. I did not have the money to pay in full and the only arrangement they would make was something I couldn't really afford. I made the payments as promised from april til august when I could no longer do it. The court summons was delivered to a friends farm in Illinois and signed for by a guy who works there. I never recieved the summons or new anything about it until I was informed when trying to get a license renewed several months later. Yet the bills kept coming to my address. Nothing about a court date. Do I have any recourse with this considering I was never served, I live in Missouri, and I signed a payment arrangment ?

Re: judgement

You might have a way to vacate the judgment due to never being served, but you should consult a local Illinois attorney about this, someone that practices in the county that the case is in.
