Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois
judgement question
I have been served with a summons from a credit card company that I currently owe approx. $7800. If I do not act before May 3rd they could have a judgement against me. My question is I missed 4 payments and have payed the last 5 payments on time and still was served. I have had this credit card for well over ten years and have missed payments before and they have never taken this action. I have made payment arragements several times with them including setting up reoccurring payments (they would only let me set up 4 months worth of reoccuring, then I would have to call back) when I wish I could have set up a year or more of automatic payments. Bottom line is I cannot believe after al these years, and payments, now after missing 4 payments they want to sue me? What can I do to fight this? Is my only option calling them and setting up a payment plan to pay it off before the court date? They have made a ton of money off me over the last 10+ years, why all of a sudden do they want all the money? makes no sense to me. I would appreciate any advice. thanks!

Re: judgement question
There is really nothing you can do to prevent them from suing you. Bottom line, they are not obligated to make special arrangements for payment. If someone does not pay as agreed, they can certainly sue that person. It seems to make sense that they would want to make arrangements, but there probably comes a point where they just want to get their money.
