Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois
I live in illinois, this summer the winshield on my car was broken by a rock. The deductable on my policy was $250. When the company arrived to install my windshield, they said that my deductable on the repair was $100. I looked at the contract, it originally had $250 on it, it was scratched out and $100 was written in. When I asked the installer if this amount was correct, he said that it was I gave him a check for $100.00 he gave me a copy of the bill, and marked it paid, and we went on our sepperate ways. Now, jan 10 2011 over 5 months latter, I get a call from the glass company saying they charged me the wrong amount, and that I owe them $150.00. If I have a bill that has the amount changed by them, and it is marked paid, am I leagally responsible for the $150.00 they say they did not collect by mistake?

It sounds like you were aware that your deductible was $250, and the repair company simply made a mistake. If so, then yes, you are legally responsible for the full amount of your deductible.
