Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois
We are getting married in a few weeks, my fiance had an emergency and had to spend a couple days in the hospital. She has a horrible health insurance plan and is expecting large bills from this. I have owned the home in just my name for over 10 years. If we are unable to pay the hospital bills she icurred before our marriage can the hospital put a lein on the house I own (our residence) afer we are married? Or come after any of my other assets to pay for her doctor and hospitals or other debts she may incurr prior to our marriage?

IF she is up for it I would say have her file bankruptcy before you get married, thus protecting you and her from any past debt. Once married, the bankruptcy court will look at the household earnings and assets, not just her own.
