As a merchant can I keep my customers credit card info on file in my office?

Seems like a bad idea, even if you had their written consent--which obviously you would get, correct? If your office was burglarized, you would not only need to contact all of these individuals to let them know their information was stolen, but you may be liable for any losses they might suffer. And the publicity would not be favorable. Same if you had an employee who "borrowed" the information. I do not know why you would want to do this, but the possible downside could be devastating to your business and your customers.
