Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

I had a pay day loan, but it defaulted due to not having the funds in the account. This was all done electronically over the internet. Is this a criminal act? What kind of trouble can I get into.

It is possible this could be considered the same as writing a check knowing there is no money in the account. I would suggest making every effort to make the payment.
