Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Post Judgment collection

I had a judgment filed against me and agreed to pay $100 a month. The judgment was for $4,000. Recently I came into some money and called the attorney for judgment creditor and offered to pay $2,000 and asked if they would accept as payment in full and report on my credit report as such. He laughed and said absolutely not and insisted I pay the entire $4,000. Can this be settled at 50% of amount? Should I contact the judgment creditor myself and make the offer?

Re: Post Judgment collection

Once there is a judgment, there isn't much reason for the creditor to settle unless they think they'll never see all the money. If you had tried before a judgment was entered, you might have been able to negotiate, but it really depends on the creditor.
