There's an old saying - anybody can sue for anything -- it's really a question of whether they have a case. Beneficial may have made a mistake, but debt collectors can be very difficult to deal with and anything you tell them could be used against you. Because your credit rating may be affected by this situation, even if it is a mistake, and today credit ratings are so very important, it may be helpful for you to have an attorney review the account with you and make put together a way of getting this resolved. But you can NOT ignore a summons -- even if the plaintiff (Beneficial) is wrong, you have an obligation to defend yourself through the legal process.
