Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois
I received a notice to appear in a Wisconsin court over a bad check I wrote in 2004. I live in Illinois and was wondering what the statute of limitations is and what should I do. I assumed this check was paid and we are no longer with the bank where we had our checking account.

In Illinois there is a three-year statute of limitations for bad checks.

If I were you, I would consult with an attorney in Wisconsin where you have a court date. You do not want to risk a warrant being issued for your arrest or a default judgment being entered against you.
