Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois
I have received a summons for a collection of a credit card with Citibank. I have been trying to make a settlement or payment arrangement with the attorney but he will not agree with what I have offered. he is telling me that Citibank only authorized him at 85% of the balance. Well I know that is not true cause I have settled several with Citibank for 20% already. So he in turn sent a summons to me. I really dont understand what the summons is and need to know the consequences of this. Can they garnish my wages? can they put lien on house? My wife is unemployed and has been for 2 years and unable to find a job, my hours have been cut, we have just enough to scrape by and am worried about this. Please help--do I have to go to court? what if I don't? thanks

If you do not appear in court, a judgment will be levied against you for the full amount you owe, plus any late fees and attorneys fees of course.
Show up to court, DO NOT blow this off. Your wages can be garnished and a lien placed against your home.
