Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

I received a summons to appear in court due to a past due credit card bill. After receiving the summons I immediately called the collection firm representing the credit card company and made payment arrangements so that I could hopefully handle this outside of court. They did tell me that I did not need to appear for the summons if I so wished and it would not matter because I have agreed to payment arrangements outside of court. However I am unsure if this is correct, if I should trust that not appearing is not an issue because I have already made arrangements to pay. Can they still proceed and get judgment against me garnishing my pay an my spouses, even though their has been an agreement to pay?

yes, they can and they will. you really need to get a lawyer. It will probably cost you less than $1500.00 many cases can be dismissed for that amount.

If you do not show up, it is almost a certainty that they will enter a default judgment against you.
