Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

I received a summons for court last week. for an un paid medical bill. I paid the actual bill Monday.

. I called the attorney to work out a payment plan for the rest and was told that if the total amount including court fees are not paid by the date on the summons I will still receive a judgement. I asked for the total amount and how to pay it. I have not received a call back, it has been over 24 hour hours since that conversation.

Also I asked if I actually have to go to court, and was not given an answer.

The attonrey does not even live in my county. He is 4 hours away.

So I basically have 6 days to pay an undisclosed amount of money, and I am not sure what happens if I do not pay that by the date listed on the summons.

I will do what I have to do to avoid judgment, as it will have to be reported to my employer because of the nature of the work I do.

I am even willing to pay more by hiring someone to help me postpone the summons date to aviod the judgment.

File an appearance. Depending on how much you are being sued for, you may need to file an answer. If you file an appearance no judgment should be entered against you. Send a written demand to the attorney asking how much is owed, including costs and attorneys fees. You should have paid the bill by paying the attorney and not the creditor. As they have an attorney it is best to deal through that attorney.
