Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Release/Satisfaction of Judgment

Creditor won judgment against my husband. Appeared at the Daley Center in Chicago. We paid off the judgment and have a Release/Satisfaction of Judgment from the Plaintiff's Attorney. We need to get this recorded and went to the Bridgeview Courthouse (closeest to our home). The clerk said that we need to do this at the Daley Center and that it can take up to a year. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Release/Satisfaction of Judgment

The Satisfaction of judgment should already be on file in the court file. What you want to do is make sure it is filed with the County Recorder so that there is a record of the Judgment lien against your property having been satisfied, so that when you sell it later, you can sell it.
