Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Repayment of Loan

Had a joint bank account with a friend. I used some of the money with other's knowledge and understanding I would pay it back. Now they want me to pay back more than what we agreed on that I can afford at this time and have threatened to go to our boss and human resources people at our place of employment. Is this legal?
