Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois
Responsibility for deceased parents debt
My 88 year old mother lives with us.
She has considerable credit card debt but has excellent credit and is current on all accounts.
Her only source of income is her monthly social security check.
She uses her credit cards, from time to time, to purchase things for her daughter and son in law.
Upon her death can her daughter/son in law be held responsible for any of her debt?

No. They are gifts from your mother to your sister.

While your mother is generally responsible, I would be quite careful about whose signature appears on the credit card slips.
