Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

My roommate and I from college (2 yrs ago) were supposedly past due on rent $1,000, which we disagreed with. And, they did not factor in our deposit which was not returned to us. It was never formally resolved, but we received a letter from a collection agency. Is this just a little intimidation? Can this go on our credit report without a judgment, especially considering we disagree?

Yes it can. Make sure it is not on your credit report already and file a dispute if it is. You may need to file an injunction stopping them from reporting this to credit bureaus.
