Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Sallie Mae loan after death

A friend's daughter died in a car accident. There remains an outstanding debt owed to Sallie Mae which my friend co-signed for her daughter. My friend is being told she is to pay the debt. Does this sound right? Is there anywhere my friend can turn to for this loan to be dissolved?

Re: Sallie Mae loan after death

If she co-signed, she is obligated to repay the debt. Even bankrupcty will usually not get you out of a student loan debt.
