Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

UnderIllinois law can a resident of another state co sign for an Illinois resident on an auto loan? If so do they become lawfully responsible for the vehicle in case of an accident or unforseen happening?

Yes, but the decision regarding who is an adequate co-signer is up to the lender. The co-signer would be responsible for accidents, etc. if the co-signer is also an owner, i.e., his or her name is on the title.
