Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

my wife recently passed away. my question is do i have to pay all of her medical bills that she created or is there something that i can do. she has no insurance and i have none either. i only work part time and do not make very much money. she was 61 when she passed away and all of the bills total about $70.000. i tried getting public aid, they turned me down. said i make too much money.i am 60 years old and cant work too much longer. i am a diabetic and suffer from many complications. we claimed bankrupck last year and i am barely hanging on to the house now. have had several no's as far as a loan go. i also have two morgages on the home. i owe more than the home is worth.

You personally do not owe the debts of your wife, however, they may come after her estate if there is any money left. Unless, of course you personally guaranteed or co-signed for nay of them. Also, where any of the medical bills incurred prior to the filing of the bankruptcy because those debts would have been discharged through the bankruptcy.
