Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

in 1996 i was 22 and charged with domestic battery, and received according to the paperwork i have now judgement of conviction and sentence of cond. discharge paid 291.00 to court house no jail.. class A misdemeanor...is there anyway to get this off my record i alwys thought it was just discharged i tried for a foid card and was turned down ofcourse and they said maybe i could get it expundged spoke with a local lawyer who got a copy of the plea agreement and he didnt think there was anything i could do ... i live in a small town in central illinois out in the country

A conviction for domestic battery is not expungeable (as you found out). Your only option is to seek clemency from the governor. In order to do this you will need to go before the Illinois Prision Review Board and make a request for clemency. The board will make a recommendation to the governor and then it's up to him to determine whether to grant you clemency or not.
