Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
1st time theft
I never been in trouble before until i took money from my job @ the bank. I had my first court date and all they did was give me another date to come back. What will most likely happen to me? Will I serve time in jail or will they just have me pay back what i took?

Re: 1st time theft
What will happen to you will depend upon a number of factors. The most important factor will be who you hire as your attorney. You should hire the very best criminal defense attorney you can afford as soon as possible. Do not try to go through this on your own. If you can not afford an attorney, ask the Court to appoint the public defender for you. Other important factors will include your criminal record (if any), the amount of money you took, and of course your ability to make full restitution. Please take advantage of all of the free advise you have received on this web site, and no matter who you decide to hire, good luck.

I doubt you will go to jail, but I would need to know much more about your case to determine what a reasonable sentence for you would be.
If you were appointed an attorney, or hired your own attorney, your counsel will pass the State's plea offer along to you. The attorney will also let you know if the offer is fair and reasonable.

There are a lot of variables in the possible outcome of your case. The amount involved will have a lot to do with the possible disposition. It is a crime of dishonesty and the way it gets handled can have a long term consequence on your life. If they told you to come back, you may be expected to be returning with an attorney. You face the possibility of jail and you should have an attorney. We do work in Cook county and I suggest you review our website at http://www.shestokas.com/
