Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Alright, note i'm only 15 I'm concerned mainly because the incident is sort of "life threatening" but, this is what happenned:

On September 9th 2010, my father got into a minor accident with a lady as he was going to work , he was late for work and he was driving co-workers to work so he was eager to get to work. The outcome of the accident was not big , as it was a minor bump to the bumper of the car. My father got off the Car and asked her if she was okay, and if she needed Medical Assistance she had said no, and while they were talking a Fire Truck came by got out and had asked the same thing my father asked, she said no instead she called her husband. My father gave her the insurance card and told her that he had to go to work and she was fine with it.

About a week-two weeks later, the womans husband came up to my house and waited for my father to come through the front gate from work, as my father was walking in he talked to my father, wait no he threathened my father and scared my father, he told my father that he had been in Jail in China before and that being in jail in America wouldn't be much of a difference, he told my father that his wife got a personal body check a little after and got a x-ray , the thing is though, she was pregnant and the UV Rays or something had affected the baby and she had to get an abornation and if he didn't give him $10,000+ that he would call friends to beat up my father.

A week later (September 30th) , the husband called my father and asked my father where the money was , my father said "why do i have to give you money?", and the guy said "Fine, don't give me money i'll make you feel the pain that i felt 10x more" , which i understand as "Give me money or i'm hurting your children" , my sister is currently 17 years old, and i'm as stated above 15.

What should i do? , If i called the police and we got into court about how long would be kept in prison for?

I'm sorry to hear about your/your family's situation.

The best thing you can do is be a good witness and tell the police everything you saw/heard. Also you will want to appear in court when you are asked to to be a witness.

As for how much jail prison time the man who threatened your family is facing would be based upon what "exactly" he is being charged with and if he has any priors (crimes that he was convicted of before). The States Attorney should be handling your case.

Your family may want to make an appointment to talk with the States Attorney (prosecutor).

I hope everything works out for you and your family.
