Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Using another's identity to get benefits from state organizations

My adult daughter has discovered that her mother has been using her ID & SS# to get money from state-run agencies, for work that she (my daughter) is not/has not performed. As a result of this perceived income, my daughter cannot collect unemployment since she lost her job, since the state sees the money that her mother is getting fradulently, as income for my daughter.

What can my daughter do to get her mother to stop using her identity? Is she responsible for any criminal charges based on the actions of her mother?

Hello. Your adult daughter can file a police

report against mom for identity theft. Once

she has a police report, she can then take it

to the Office of the State's Attorney where

she lives. In my opinion, this is the best

approach to dealing with this situation. I will

be happy to answer any additional questions that

you may have.
