I have an appeal form I want to lodge on behalf of my fiance in prison to reduce his sentence, to obtain alot of the information I need a lawyer, is there another way of obtaining it and do I need a lawyer to lodge it since I am in Australia

You can't just file a form and expect a sentence to be reduced. You must have legal reasons and file briefs for an appeal. You have to show how the judge was wrong in sentencing him to the time he received. This is not a fast and easy process. The State will reply in a brief opposing any issue that is raised. An appeal in a criminal case takes anywhere from 12 to 18 months. Transcripts of the trial and sentencing hearing must be purchased. An appeal is very expensive. You should have an attorney.
