How do I get a public defender to file an appeal for my husband on a felony conviction? We used all are money on an lawyer, who states he is no longer on the case

On the day of sentencing, or within 30 days thereof, your trial lawyer must file a notice of appeal with the court and ask the public defender be appointed.
