A prosecutor may try to introduce past acts if there is enough connection between those past acts and the current charge. You should be represented by someone who will fight to prevent those past acts from being introduced.
A charge or conviction for retail theft can certainly have employment consequences so you should take care to resolve your case in the best way possible for yourself.
