if you are arrested for shoplifting(no priors) and no one from the store appears for court, aren't the charges dropped?

In most instances, unless the State requests a continuance and is granted one.

Even if you are at one of the branch courts, I recommend you have an attorney representing you.

I do many of these on Flournoy and also Grand branch courts.

No, if your case is set for trial and a witness does not appear, the prosecutor will obtain a continuance from the Judge, and you will need to come back to Court on another date. In any event, you do not want to have a conviction for shoplifting on your record, and if you can not arrange for a plea bargain on your own, you should hire an attorney. An attorney may be able to sucessfully defend the charge or negotiate a plea bargain that would be in your best interest.
