Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
Arrested for having a taser
I was at work and I work at a highschool. My school is in a high crime area and I had been previously been beat'in by an ex-boyfriend who I had arrested and who is friends with the principal and a few other men at the school. For fear of my safety I moved and bought a taser that I carried on the nights I had to work late. One afternoon at school one of my co-workers who is 6'2 400 hundred pounds tried to jump on me and my co-workers was trying to hold him back. When I saw that they could not I went in my purse and pulled out my taser in self defense and he backed up and they removed him for the area. Later I was arrested. I live in indiana but I work in chicago
Do you think I can beat the charges?

Re: Arrested for having a taser
Hello. This is a serious matter. You
have probably been charged with a felony. In my opinion, you probably can beat the charge. You need a lawyer. Of course Indiana law differs
from that of Illinois and from your
explanation you clearly were acting in self defense. You may be able to
rely upon your Indiana residency as
a defense for having the taser. I have handled this type of case before
involving an Indiana resident and certain preliminary motions need to be filed to properly defend you. Fortunately, you do have witnesses who were at the scene. I will be happy to discuss this further and in more detail.
