Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

I was a back seat passenger in my friend's car when we were confronted with another car in which the driver began to shout vicious and obsene comments. At a red light, I got out of the car and started to punch the driver in the face (while she was still in her car). In the process, the driver managed to bite my finger and would not let go. I proceeded to pull her hair to get free and her friends started to pull on mine. The driver then rolled up the window trapping my right arm and left wrist. When the light turned green, she drove off. The passengers in the car were still holding on to my hair and my arms were still trapped by the window. I was dragged several blocks until I heard one of them tell the driver to stop and let me go. As they drove off I managed to get a license plate and filed a police report. I even went to the emergency room because I suffered injuries and obviously trauma from this incident. I am aware I acted immaturely and take full responsibility for my actions. My question is, can I press charges even though I started the fight?

Talk to the state's attorneys office or the police department. The amount of force used to repel you was out of proportion to what you did.
