BAR exam

In Illinois, can a student with a residential burglary- felony in their backgrond, still be admitted into law school and sit to take the BAR exam?

It will not prohibit entrance to law school or taking the exam. It is likely to be a major hurdle with the character and fitness committee. Pursuing a pardon is an excellent idea, however that is a long process. If the student wishes to go to law school, he should do so while pursuing a pardon. A law degree is good background for many things even if one is not admitted to the bar, and being in law school is a good showing for the pardon request. Good luck

Hello. In my opinion, one with a felony record should attempt to get a pardon from the Governor of Illinois to avoid any problems. Usually a felony background will block one's entrance to the Illinois bar. Will be happy to discusss this further and in more detail.
