Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

I bought my first car for one thousand four hundred and fifty dollars, recently and it haven't been able to drive it and asked what was wrong with it they said might need new brake pads in the next few months. so i said thats fine when i got home after driving it an hour home the engine was smoking i took it in there are more then just the brake problems there are major problems, my mechanic said no one should of sold this car its very dangerous you could have died driving it home. I bought it from a person supposably but it was on a auto shop lot, so they had to known of the problems with it and i asked what is wrong with it he answered only the brakes and i then asked what else he said that's it. I did not get a bill of sale but i have the paper from park auto saying whats wrong with it and how its dangerous also, i have the craigslist post saying nothing wrong with it.

You may have been defrauded, but all you may be left with is a lawsuit if they won't take the car back. Luckily you have "some" paperwork and the fact you don't have a bill of sale may be helpful because most bills of sale say that sales like this are "AS IS" and that wording could supersede the paper from the shop and the craigslit posting. Have a local attorney look at the paperwork and talk to you more about this to see if you have a real shot at getting your money back and maybe would write a letter to the shop on your behalf. It may require that you drop the car, keys and title off with the shop but an attorney should help you with that too.
