Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
My boyfriend and i fought last week, and even though i "threw the first punch" he was arrested. It seems the cops are ignoring the fact that i threw something at him first to trigger what followed. Is there anything i can do at this point to make sure these charges dont stick?

I've seen this a thousand times. You can talk to the state's attorney. But, if criminal charges were filed, it's "the People" versus your boyfriend, not you versus your boyfriend. If you are in a relationship that involves violence, you should seek counseling, and do whatever you need to do to protect yourself, even if it means ending the relationship.
