Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Breaking and Entering....

I am 16 years old, and I am currently making an independent film, and I need a warehouse to use. My associates and I have found a warehouse that is abandoned, but we can not find one bit of information on who owns it. I wanted to know how much trouble we could get in for just going in there during the daytime and filming.

Re: Breaking and Entering....

If you enter the premises without permission you are at the very least committing the offense of criminal tresspass to properety, a Class A misdomeanor. It could be possible that you could be charged with burglary. You would have to enter without permission with the intent to commit a theft or other felony inside. Even if you did not intend to commit any crime inside, the state could still charge you and you would have to prove otherwise. It's easy to find out who owns the property. Go to the recorder of deeds in your county with the address and ask them for help. Get written permission to go onto the property to make your film. Also, leave the property in the condition you found it. Good luck.
