Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Changing Lawyers

I know lawyers are not supposed to talk to people who already have an attorney. Right now I have a lawyer representing me in a Telephone harassment case and I have no faith in him at all. How do I go about getting a second opinion and change lawyers without violating this ethical requirement that the client gets permission to consult with another attorney without firing the old lawyer. I plan on getting a second opinion on my case and then have my new lawyer take care of firing the old lawyer for me. I only have two court supervisions for traffic tickets and I have no prior criminal record. I personally think this whole case is bogus. A friend of mine stole my car and he got caught and charged with GTA. I then left him voicemail's laced with profanity expressing my displeasure with him for stealing my car.

Re: Changing Lawyers

Just go talk to another lawyer. You are not bound by any of the rules of professional conduct ... only lawyers are. Your new lawyer will not be breaking any rule by talking to you.
