Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
Check Forgery
Recently, my ex-fiance gave me permission to write a check in his name in order to pay for some expenses following a car accident. Afterwards, we had a fight and he is now pressing forgery charges against me. The amount is under $500 and I live in Illinois. What are my rights? And what is the penalty for this? This is my first offense. Do I need a lawyer? Where should I proceed from here?

Re: Check Forgery
It is likely a class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to 1 year in jail, a fine of $2,500.00 or both. Yes, you need a lawyer.
Feel free to call my office to discuss.
