Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

compliance date

My sister's stepdad molested her, and he was charged with 20 counts of aggravated criminal sexual assult against a child. He got the arraignment postponed for almost a year. We went to the preliminary hearing, and the judge said he was taking it under advisement for 3 weeks. Don't know what happened there. Then there was the pretrial conference, we don't know what happened there, but the court told us he had an october compliance date, we called after that and they now say he has a dec 16th compliance date. Can you tell me where this could be going, what any of this means, what the ''compliance date'' could be for, or if this is likely to go to trial or not? Since he has a compliance date, does this mean the judge didn't dismiss the case? We don't know who the DA is, who to contact, or where to find answers. We can't seem to find anything from anyone and we would really like to have some idea of what's going on. Thank you for your time.

Re: compliance date

I believe that the state's attorney's office should be more than willing to provide you with information. Try calling the state's attorney's office in the county where the case is pending, give them the defendant's name, identify yourself as part of the victim's family and then ask for the attorney handling the case. Or, you may go to the circuit clerks office in the county courthouse where the case is pending and ask to see the court file. It is a public record. If you are unable to make sense of the court file, you could consult with an attorney. Good luck.
