Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Consequences to Adult contributing to Minor Consumption

3 months ago I brought alcohol to a friends (a minor) house. There were 3 minors consuming. I'm 23. For whatever reason, he narked me out, does his dad have a case against me? Should he have a case, what kinda consequences would i be looking at? What kinda misdemeanor would it be? What is the statute of limitations? Do the police have to be involved at the time of occurance?

Re: Consequences to Adult contributing to Minor Consumption

If you would be charged, the charge would be providing alcohol to minors or most likely contributing to delinquency of a minor(s), which is a Class A misdemeanor but most of the time a charge is filed under municipal ordinance and does not involve a formal arrest. Since you were not charged at this time, it is unlikely that you will be charged at all. Most important do not make any statements to ANYONE. The father has no claim against you since only the State of Illinois can bring criminal charge(s). Do not provide alcohol to minors in the future.

Re: Consequences to Adult contributing to Minor Consumption

The potential charge is a class A misdemeanor, which carries up to 364 days in jail and/or a fine of up to $2500. The statute of limitation is 18 months. The police do not have to be involved at the time of the occurrence. This is possibly a serious matter and should you be either arrested or summoned to court you should have no comment to anyone.
