Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

What constitutes criminal trespass?

Our house has been egged and trees covered with toilet paper on two recent occassions. When we confronted the parents of the teenagers responsible, they told us their kids did nothing illegal.

Does trespassing on our land, coming onto our porch, climbing on our cars, and covering our trees with toilet paper constitute a crime, and if so, which ones?

What is our legal recourse to prevent this from happening again?

Re: What constitutes criminal trespass?

There are two crimes involved. Criminal trespass to property and criminal damage to property. If in fact you know who did these things, call the police. As part of the disposition of the case it should require that these persons have no contact with you or your property.

Additionally, there is a little known provision in Illinois law that may make the parents responsible for the damage to your property. To pursue that angle you should contact an attorney.
