Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
Credit Card & Identity Theft
My father and I have the same name. I received a credit card in our name however using my father's social security number. My father has now detected the debt through the credit bureau. The credit card has attempted to contact me. I am not sure what to do or who to turn to or how much information to provide the credit card company with. I do not want to incriminate myself. I am in a position to payoff the entire debt. If I pay it off immediatly will the issue be resolved?

Re: Credit Card & Identity Theft
By all means pay off the credit card debt and cancel the account. Then, I would suggest apologising to your father and promising that it will never happen again. With luck he will elect not to have you prosecuted for credit card fraud.
