Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
criminal act
Iwas under contract to secure advertising for a publication. I was an independent contactor and would collect money and then give that money to the publisher. Sometimes I woulddeposit to my own account as the checks were made out to me. When the time came to pay the total I was behind but had made the publisher aware of all the money I owed him. He got angry and had the police call me to an interview. That was two years ago. I had an attorney write to him and ask him if he would agree to a settlement. He wrote and said he agree. That was two years ago too. I am always worried because I did not steal any money. I made him aware at all times and he was not an emplyer and the customers got what they paid for. Do you think this is over?

Re: criminal act
Well if you have settled with the owner, paid the settlement, and 2 years have passed, there is a good chance that everything is over.
There are some statutes of limitations that apply to these types of cases. If you know what charges the police were threatening you can do a search to see what the time limit is for prosecution. When the statute passes, you will know everything is over.
