i was arrested for criminal trespass by my boyfriend we want to know if he could talk to the states atty. to get the charges dropped. do i need a lawyer. might i have to pay fine or time in jail. what do i do, this is my first offence

Once a case comes into court, it is called the People of the State of Illinois v. You. That means the State's Attorney is now in charge of the case. Depending upon the situation the State may or may not go along with your boyfriend. Sometimes they will prosecute the case anyway, particularly when there is some relationship between the people that may lead to other troubles down the road. You would be well advised to have a lawyer since you have a possible jail sentence of up to one year for this matter. It may be serious.
