You should not go to the interview alone. In my experience, detectives go out to interview witnesses. They ask suspects to come into the department. It sounds as if you are under investigation, and often people think they can help themselves by cooperating. This is rarely true, as even innocent statements can appear as admissions of guilt when taken out of context. There is a reason a right to remain silent exists. Consult counsel and if there is to be an interview, you should have counsel with you.

You may be charged in a crime. You will be better off retaining counsel who can deal with the police instead of you going in, making a statement and then being charged.

You should discuss your situation with a lawyer to make sure that you have no criminal exposure. Also, you will want to protect yourself against the conversation moving into an area where you could incriminate yourself. You should speak with a criminal defense lawyer before speaking with the police.
