Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
After a criminal indictment can the police place an informant in the jail cell next to a defendant, instructing him/her not to initiate conversation with the defendant and then use any of the unsolicited statments against a defendant?

Once you're in jail the police can do pretty much anything they want. There is no expectation of privacy and certainly no secrets in jail.
