what is the responsibility of the court of appeals?

There is an appellate court in each state which takes appeals from trial courts in their state. There is also a United States Court of Appeals. That court takes appeals from federal courts on federal cases.
The appellate court uses different standards of reviewing lower cases, depending on the issues being raised. Roughly, the court's job is to find out whether the lower court incorrectly decided a case.
